Run And Gun Video Shoots

Run And Gun Video Shoots

Electronic Field Production or EFP is the type of shooting that can be successfully achieved by one person. Often referred to as “news gathering” or “B-roll” acquisition, footage is acquired on-location using “run-and-gun” techniques. Here audio recording is generally just the ambient sound occurring naturally. Therefore the on-camera microphone is used. The available light of the scene is usually all that is necessary. The videographer is responsible for the entire outcome of the endeavor. Ultimately we are always hoping for sunny skies, limited background/street noise and lighting situations that allow us to put the subject facing the sun.

The majority of what we do at Studio 1 MediaWorks is done this way. To improve on the overall sound we’ll use a wireless sound set-up. Portable lighting is also used  (indoors) for longer shoots at one location.

Panama City real estate is shot at multiple locations using the run and gun technique so sound and lighting is always in question. Our Dothan show is all shot at one location every other week with a wireless sound set-up, tripod and portable lighting. We’ll shoot10-15 listings from one location in Dothan compared to one location at a time in Panama City.

In Panama City all photos for real estate listings are shot by us using a 10mm wide angle lens. The photos make-up 75% of the listing video and with this wide of an angle just about ant size room will be framed in nicely. Our super-wide angle works even better for automotive shows in capturing vehicle interiors.

In Dothan, the photos are provided by the agents and for the most part of lessor quality. The improved sound and agents’ on-camera segments help to balance things out nicely.

Using the run and gun technique greatly reduces production time and cost. For bigger budget productions we are capable of greatly improving sound and light on location. We also have 16′ jib crane and teleprompter we can use on location for an added cost.
